About Us

Our Story

Our idea of developing a platform using AI to help radiologists goes back to 2017 when we saw an eminent opportunity. With the advances of GPUs and Deep Learning, we realized it was possible to solve a problem the industry has been trying for decades and could never achieve: use machines to help radiologists better diagnose and be more efficient…so Aquila was born.

Our sole purpose is to build a suite of products to increase mammography service providers’ efficiency and overall quality, helping entities every step of the way, from image acquisition to administrators.

Aquila means “eagle” in Latin. Just like eagles, machines can “see” things the human eye can’t. However, machines can’t make the complex decisions humans can. That’s why we are strong believers that machines + humans working together will achieve much better results in medicine.

Core Values

Why you need AI as a provider

Radiologists have been facing a huge problem for decades that due to the lack of technology it has never been solved: how to increase quality and efficiency and avoid burnout!

Radiology is a very complex area and the tedious task of examining dozens to hundreds of black and white images in a dark room can be unrewarding if cancers are still missed or if the cancer found is not in a curable stage. On top of that, the hours spent by the technician to regularly calibrate the mammographers and the bad breast positioning directly affect the quality of images analyzed by the radiologists and contributes to misinterpretation.

With AquilaAI, our customers will achieve better quality and efficiency throughout the clinic, not just the radiologists. Administration can make smarter decisions based on data, with the goal to achieve better results, always.

Our approach to AI

At Aquila, we have a profound knowledge of mammography workflow, needs, and pains of mammography service providers. One of our founders has been a technology and service provider for over 20 years and the other a private practice owner and technology consumer. That gives us a unique vision of AI for radiology. AI is still in its infancy and, therefore, it’s not mature enough to find cancer. We believe AI to be more effective when used in helping clinics and hospitals to transform their radiology department as a whole, not just the radiologists. Radiology service providers need to gain confidence and use AI as a tool to help them increase confidence and efficiency and not to substitute them. The industry change will happen from within, organically. In summary, our focus is to optimize mammography service providers’ workflow, create a quality control process, and a decision support tool.
